Who we are

The genesis of this platform traces back to 2015 when the groundwork for its development was laid. Recognising the need for collaborative expertise, Ernie Retief joined Johann in 2017, further enriching the software’s evolution and project management. The culmination of our dedication came to fruition with the official launch of Worth.Business in April 2020.

However, our story starts even earlier. In 2003, Johann established Intellifin, a pioneering business valuation practice. Building on this foundation, Pollination Capital assumed Intellifin’s valuation practice in 2013, broadening its scope to also encompass comprehensive M&A support and facilitation, along with specialised corporate training in M&A-related domains.

In November 2021, the legacy of valuation services offered by Pollination Capital was transitioned to Worth.Business Consulting. Building on this momentum, we continued to evolve, absorbing the M&A and training services in June 2023.

As time progressed, we diligently assembled and kept on building a team of professionals united by the shared goal of being your ultimate partner in effective business value management. Our journey is a testament to our commitment to innovation, expertise, and delivering unmatched value to our clients.

Johann has more than 25 years of experience in consulting and training related to corporate finance. He has specialised in business valuations since 2003 when he started consulting to clients seeking valuations. He has since presented M&A-related topics at seminars, conferences, webinars and workshops in South Africa and South-East Asia on more than 60 occasions. Johann conceptualised the Worth.Business online valuation platform and worked with software developers since 2016 to develop this. He also established and heads up the Consulting and M&A divisions of Worth.Business.

Technical Director

Ernie Retief has 16 years of technical IT experience and is currently the Technical Director of Worth.Business.  Before this, he helped build GraphicMail from a small startup to become a successful international marketing tool. Ernie joined Worth.Business in 2018 and helped to build the online valuation platform. His experience managing teams and system architecture is essential to continue building the digital valuation platform and making Worth.Business fast and secure.

Wilma worked at the CSIR as a financial manager, where she gained extensive experience in accounting and financial management.  In 2009, she left the corporate world to care for her children.  In 2018, she started her own practice, specialising in accounting and practice management for various clients. This year, she joined the Worth.Business team as Practice Manager and Valuation Consultant.

Henry Brown is a seasoned Chartered Accountant with extensive experience spanning diverse sectors and clients. Henry has a fervent passion for valuations and financial modelling. With over a decade of extensive experience in financial modelling, he recently joined Worth.business as a consultant to further enhance his valuation expertise.

Accountant & Consulting support

Marlene has been in the accounting business from the start of her career, which began in 1989, working in various accounting firms.  From 2010 to 2020 she co-owned a courier company with her husband.  She now works for Worth.Business, bringing her full wealth of experience in accounting and compliance.

Administrator & Marketing Support
(Secretarial Diploma)

With 25+ years of administrative experience, starting in corporate secretarial/admin in the Credit Research department at Lehman Brothers London and finally settling back in South Africa where she continued her career as a private personal assistant. She is a dedicated team player currently responsible for administration and support duties.
